Before I start anything I want to preface this post by saying that I do not have the typical college dorm room. I am an RA (resident advisor) at my college and we are given a private room for whenever we have to take care of sensitive problems with our residents. With that said my room is pretty big in my opinion for a private and in comparison to my room at home.
Starting out when you first walk into my room you see my little “kitchen” area and eventually where my “coat rack” will go. I put these in quotations because in college everything serves more than one purpose typically.
What you aren’t able to see in these pictures is my plastic 5 drawer kitchen storage. It is to the right of the wardrobe and with where the “coat rack” area will be. This little coat rack area is just going to be out of command strips on the wall because it is behind the door when you walk in. By putting my jackets and scarves on the wall it is also a great way to save space while sort of decorating the area sort of speak.
As you step farther into my room, the hallway then leads to the main part of my bedroom as well as my bathroom. I know, I am very spoiled being an RA becasue we have a private bathroom and I am told so by my residents on an almost weekly basis.
Maybe it is just me, but I love having this hallway becasue it makes my room seem a lot bigger and just gives me more space to decorate and store stuff. I know I have a lot of polaroids, the sad thing is the ones on this wall isn’t even half of all my polaroids. As you keep walking you pretty much just walk into the middle of everything. My bathroom is on the left and then straight ahead is my dressers, tv, school stuff, and my desk.
I ended up moving my little tea station that is to the right on my set of drawers to the left of my tv just to balance out the area a little more. I keep all of my textbooks and binders in these milk crates that I spray painted grey to match the theme of my room. I’m not sure if it is really a theme but I just tried to keep similar colors. Those colors being blues, grey, white, and gold. In my opinion, it is kind of hard to brighten up my room just because of how dark the furniture is and the yellow colored floors that they used. Continuing to the bathroom which is the brown door in the corner of the picture, here is what my bathroom looks like most days.
To the left is the toilet and pretty much all my bathroom and cleaning supplies. I also have a dish drying station that I set up because I actually am not on a meal plan and so I make pretty much all of my meals. You may have noticed that I have an alarm clock in my bathroom and that is becasue this is the only way I can make sure that I actually get up in time for class. Tip for all of you all who are like me and can’t manage to ever get up to your first alarm. Put your alarm clock away from your bed and close to whatever you do first in your morning routine, for me the first thing I do is wash my face so I put my alarm clock in the bathroom… I don’t know, call me weird but it works.
Alright, now its time for the fun stuff! My bed is actually 2 twin extra long beds pushed and bolted together to create a king-sized bed. My comforter is from target I believe, but my mom actually found it and she isn’t sure where it is from. Beneath my bed, is just where I store all of my clothes for the whole year and all of the random stuff you end up needing while at college. I also have a hammock that I keep hung up underneath my bed, but for the sake of the picture, I tied it p so it was out of the way.
The last area of my room is what I consider my sitting area and it also where I keep my printer. When buying stuff for college just make sure you are doing your best to increase your storage and seating area. The two blue cubicles you see hold my blankets and snacks.
If you all have any questions, feel free to ask but I don’t want to draw out this post becasue for me I usually just look at all the pictures and then go back and read later if the decorations are to my style or I am just interested.
I hope you all have a great day!
