So I might have been just a little misleading with the title… The puppy is my family’s puppy so he is still part mine. He also currently follows me around like I’m his mom so I’m just going to roll with it. I don’t know about the rest of you dog lovers, but in my family, all of my past dogs have loved my Dad the most. I think part of the reason is he is the one who they slept with on their first night. I also think it has to do something with our dogs being boys leaving my Dad as the alpha male. If any of you all know for sure or just have an opinion on it feel free to leave it in the comments below.
My family had one dog before we got the puppy and he is out 5-year-old golden retriever named Chase:
The funny thing about this whole situation is that I am the person who led my parents to get a puppy and at both times I wasn’t able to be the main caretaker of the puppy. We got Chase as a friend for out older golden retriever at the time, Buddy. An additional reason was becasue I was hurt playing soccer and was out for pretty much the whole season leaving a lot of free time for my family and me. Shortly after I had surgery my parents mentioned something about them thinking Buddy needed a friend and made the mistake of telling me that if I could find a golden in this price range and this distance away that we would get one. Little did they know I am a very good researcher and bargain hunter and by the end of the week had compiled a list of my 10 favorite golden puppies that we could pick through as a family. We had picked out our favorite which happened to be my favorite as well, no surprise there really. That same weekend we picked up our new addition to the family.
5 years later and my parents still didn’t learn from their previous “mistake.” My parents don’t consider getting Chase a mistake they just wished they had known how fast it would happen. Jokes on them because of this time around, I was home from college this weekend to visit my aunt that was in town and celebrate birthdays. My parents tried to surprise my brother and me with a puppy under the Christmas tree Christmas morning so that I could spend time with it over break. That sadly back fired because the lady my mom was talking with was a scam and so my mom broke off communication. Since they were still sort of in the market for a friend for Chase I was sending them pictures of some of the dogs from the animal shelter. We even put in an application for a red golden retriever but he ended up getting reclaimed. Soooo, this weekend my parents again said if I could find a puppy within this distance and price range we would get a puppy.
Ohhhh how they didn’t learn the first time. This time around I have found over ten puppies in the hour and had talked with the breeder to see if they were still available. I had found an adorable golden retriever puppy named ranger and pretty much got all the way to say that we’d take the puppy. My parents talked it over and come 9 a.m. the next morning we were on our way to Ohio.
Upon arriving it was much like the other places we had gotten out puppies from and the goldens they did have were gorgeous and were running all over the pasture (I can’t think of a better word for this).
Now here comes the funny part. My family and I thought we were suckers, but it turns out our neighbors down the street have a giant S tattoed on their foreheads. While we were there my Dad called and eventually FaceTimed our neighbors down the street becasue there was word that they were wanting another golden retriever. Within 5 minutes, I kid you not, they were taking home a girl from the litter. So we ended up leaving with two puppies that day even though less than 24 hours before none of us had intended on getting a puppy.
And for my favorite part……… puppy pictures! You can tell me that these aren’t some seriously cute puppies.
